Pup Culture exhibition response 'paws-itively overwhelming'

Located at the Huia Lodge Discovery Hub, Pup Culture is believed to be a New Zealand first: an exhibition dedicated entirely to our furry friends. Alongside canine artworks, there’s an outdoor scent trail, dog-friendly artworks designed in the canine colour spectrum, scented elements for extra enrichment, and a stick library.
The exhibition showcases a diverse range of "paws-on" creativity, including original works made by Cornwall Park’s very own farm dogs. Visitors can also explore pieces inspired by art world greats, with tongue-in-cheek tributes to Richard Kil-lead, Jackson Pup-lock, and Vincent Van Dogh.
In a twist, staff at Huia Lodge were equal parts shocked and amused to discover a new artwork had appeared on the wall. Titled Com-meow-edian, the banana dog toy and duct tape work is boldly attributed to off-lead feline provocateur Maurizio Cat-telan.
While the exhibition celebrates our pets, it also serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility as park stewards.

“Believe it or not, visitors bring all kinds of pets to the park — including cats,” says Visitor Experience Manager Elise Goodge. “We’re a team of animal lovers and work hard to create a safe, welcoming space for both animals and people. That’s why we ask that all pets are kept on a lead while in the park.”
She adds, “The response to Pup Culture has been fantastic. We’ve met so many lovely dogs and their humans who’ve made a special trip to the park to see — and sniff — the exhibition.”
