Cornwall Park is private land, held in trust for the benefit of all New Zealanders.
To assist in preserving and maintaining the park for all people to enjoy, now and in the future, we have Conditions of Entry which govern all activities of those who enter the park.
Cornwall Park – Park Rules
Welcome to Cornwall Park. These rules are here to help us all enjoy the park safely and considerately. When you come into our park, you are agreeing to comply by these rules and with the directions of park staff. The safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority.

Our opening hours
We are open from 7am till 6pm in winter, and 7am until 9pm in summer. Sometimes the park must be closed by the Cornwall Park Trust Board. You must not enter or remain in the park when it is closed.
Entering the park
You must enter and leave the park through the entrances and exits provided for that purpose. Please leave the gates the way you found them inside the park.
Be safe
You enter the park at your own risk and the Trust Board is not responsible for injury, loss, or damage to you or your property.
Be considerate
Please be considerate of others and follow instructions from our park staff. We will not tolerate aggressive, disorderly or offensive behaviour. Do not interfere with other visitors’ enjoyment of the park, or with park staff. We do not allow intoxicated, noisy, riotous or offensive behaviour.
Protect the park
You must not damage or remove plants, soil, wildlife, buildings, signs or equipment. Please stay out of restricted or planted areas and abide by any signage directing you to do so. You must not damage historic or archaeological sites.
Animals
Dogs must be on a leash and under control at all times, in all parts of the park, including all sports fields. You must clean up after your dog. Dangerous or uncontrolled dogs may be removed. Do not disturb or remove livestock or other wildlife. You must not run or walk a dog attached to a moving vehicle. Riding horses is not allowed in the park unless prior written permission is given.
Weapons and fireworks
Firearms, axes or any item that could be dangerous are not permitted in the park without prior written permission from the chief executive. Small axes for chopping kindling for barbecues are allowed. You must not throw sticks, stones or any item in a way which is dangerous and could frighten or injure a person, or animal, or damage property within or next to the park. We have a right to confiscate a firearm, weapon or implement that breaches this rule and for any claim that comes as a result of this confiscation.
Sports and recreation
Sports are only allowed in areas set out for sporting activities, and park management reserves the right to restrict sports activities for the safety of others and to protect the park. Use sports areas only where allowed. Golf is not permitted in any part of the park, including the sports fields.
Vehicles, cycling and personal transport
The park’s speed limit is 30km/h. Vehicles must stay on designated roads and follow speed limits. Reckless or dangerous use of bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or similar devices is not allowed. Caravans and trailers are not allowed on our roads, and buses require prior written permission from the chief executive.
Please do not park on grass or restricted areas, nor leave your vehicle in the park when it closes. Illegally parked vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Fires, rubbish and noise
Fires are not allowed anywhere in the park except in designated barbecue areas. Please do not litter, break glass or leave rubbish in the park. Please use the bins provided. Excessive and amplified noise is not allowed unless prior written permission is given.
Events, structures and commercial activity
Prior written permission is needed for events, gatherings, or weddings. You will also need permission to install tents, marquees, stalls or any additional structure. Selling goods, catering, or other commercial activities are not allowed unless prior written permission is given. Filming or recording for commercial purposes is not allowed without the prior written consent of the chief executive.
Aircraft
We do not allow the use of drones in the park. Landing or flying any kind of planes, parachute or hang glider is not allowed without prior written permission, or in case of an emergency.
Other restrictions
Betting, or gambling games are not allowed in the park. Children under five must be accompanied by a person of 14 years or over. We do not allow filming for commercial purposes.
Enforcement
Park staff may ask anyone who breaches these rules to leave the park and provide their name and address.
