walk this way: new path to the summit of Maungakiekie is open

Work has been completed on a new link to the tihi (summit) track on Maungakiekie One Tree Hill. The track creates a more direct walking route to the summit from Cornwall Park – and it looks great!

It begins near the Cornwall Park Bistro carpark, starts with a gentle slope, and features boardwalks and stairs. The new boxed steps and aggregate tracks along the walkway were finished ahead of schedule.

The track offers stunning views of Rangitoto, Maungawhau (Mt Eden), Ōhinerau (Mt Hobson), and Te Kōpuke (Mount Saint John) on the way to the summit.

These route improvements are designed to enhance the experience for all manuhiri (visitors). It helps us restore and repair the land around the old paths leading to the tihi, which were badly damaged from soil erosion, while also protecting important archaeological features. Enjoy!
