Kids - Spring into Cornwall Park

Spring is a great time to get the kids out for fun, games and adventure. Here’s five cool ideas for you to connect with your littlies (and they learn stuff too!).

1. Visit the newborns

This is a lesson in life! Watch the newborn lambs and calves jump and play – from a distance.. Please give them space and observe our park rules (signs are up all over the place). New lambs and calves are kept in paddocks on the eastern side of the park. The safest viewing area is from the Belvedere Steps, just south of the Cornwall Park Café.

2. Use your senses – make connections

This is a fun activity to teach the kids about how things connect - Pick a colour and find something in the park that relates to each of the senses.

Example:

Colour: Brown

Sight: Cow

Touch- Bark from a tree

Smell- Sheep poop

Taste- Hot chocolate from the Creamery

Hear- Fantail

3. Check out our spring exhibition

Visit Huia Lodge and check out our latest exhibition: Cornwall Park Sneakerholics.
Take a step back in time and discover the fascinating journey of sneakers as they’ve changed with fashion and leisure trends over time. Dive into the history of walking in the park and learn about Sir John Logan Campbell’s love of walking and Aotearoa’s connection to Nike and jogging.

4. The park blossoms in spring

From late September to early October the park blossoms as our cherry trees burst into flower. It’s only about four weeks so gather your friends and whanau for a picnic and lot’s of selfies for Instagram. Because it’s so popular please have your picnic on the surrounding field and enjoying the trees from a distance so visitors can walk through the cherry grove and get those gorgeous pics.
There are two place to view them; the largest collection is halfway down Pōhutukawa Drive on the right from the Greenlane West entrance, and there’s a another smaller collection along Pūriri Drive, on the left if heading towards Campbell Crescent

More info about visiting the park during Cherry Blossom season can be found on our website

5. Spring scavenger hunt

This self-led activity is suitable for the young and young at heart. Take your time and find a new wonder each time you visit or race your friends and whānau to see who can find them all the fastest.

Stop by Huia Lodge or download out latest Spring Scavenger hunt on our website, starts from Saturday 6th September.
