celebrating our first farm week

Our inaugural Farm Week at Cornwall Park was a huge success. From a "Moo-sic" concert with the cows and guided farm walks, to a general knowledge quiz in the paddock, hundreds of participants experienced an authentic slice of rural Aotearoa New Zealand – all without leaving the city.

Concert for the cows
Our concert for the cows was a unique experience for all participants.

It was a busy week! Visitors were thrilled to hop on a tractor when we rolled out the farm vehicles for Meet the Machinery, while our Farm to Fibre session explored the wonders of wool.

Our self-led Farm Trail demonstrated how each season brings unique tasks – reminding us all that this is a 365-day-a-year operation.

Thanks to support from Beef + Lamb, tamariki of all ages earned their farm stripes by completing the popular Become a Farm Apprentice challenge and received a special medallion to celebrate their new-found farming skills.

Meet the Machinery
Meet the Machinery was a chance to get up close to our farm vehicles.

A highlight was surely when participants on the Farm Walk had an opportunity to have a hands-on farm experience at the woolshed drafting sheep into pens.

Event manager Charlotte Taylor said it's been fantastic to strengthen our visitors' connection to rural Aotearoa and the farm through the diverse programme. "The community's response has been baaa-rilliant!"

Farm Week is a great way to showcase that we are one of only a handful of central city parks in the world running a commercial farm right on the CBD's doorstep. The week was also an opportunity to highlight the vital work of farm manager Peter Maxwell and the farm team, while shining a light on the benefits of urban agriculture to our community.

Farm to Fibre

Farm trail
Our Farm Trail highlighted seasonal aspects of farming in NZ.

A massive thank you to our farm and events teams, and to everyone who joined in – we’re already planning an even bigger Farm Week for 2027!
